The fifth main entry in the Rebellion Developments saga, Sniper Elite 5 was published in May 2022 and offers the most accomplished precision-shooting simulation in the franchise. The title is set in occupied France in 1944, in the weeks preceding the Normandy landings, and follows Karl Fairburne in a secret operation codenamed Kraken aimed at dismantling a network of Nazi secret weapons deployed along the Atlantic coast. Director Steve Bristow and his team reconstructed eight semi-open world maps reproducing historical sites such as the Château de Maupertuis in the Cotentin, the port of Brest, the Bordeaux vineyards, and the abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel. Each mission, lasting between one and three hours, offers several ways to eliminate a secondary target and a primary objective, with unprecedented tactical freedom for the franchise. The ballistic system has been refined: sixteen variables model each bullet's trajectory, including the Earth's rotation and the Coriolis effect at long ranges. The sixteen-player multiplayer mode and the Invasion mode allow an enemy player to enter another player's campaign to hunt them down, a mechanic inspired by the Souls lineage. Composer Mark Knight revisits his signature orchestral themes, weaving in touches of French accordion and musette. The deeply revised Asura engine achieves a level of photorealistic fidelity rare in independent production. The title sold more than two million copies in its first half-year and was acclaimed for its balance of simulation, storytelling, and tactical freedom. It establishes Rebellion as the contemporary master of historical precision shooting. A sequel is planned.
